The History of Millbrook

The Millbrook area of the 1700s was known for its sprawling plantations and prominent leaders, including William Wyatt Bibb, John Archer Elmore, and Benjamin Fitzpatrick. From these plantations, the communities of Millbrook, Coosada and Robinson Springs evolved into populated places with schools, churches, and rail transportation.

During the 1920s and 1930s, the Millbrook area’s seasonal homes and cabins offered families seeking fresh country air and seclusion the perfect retreat.  Soon the seasonal population stayed year-round. Throughout the post-WWII decades the Millbrook area flourished; residential development began, small businesses sprang up and Stanhope Elmore High School opened.
